LABYRINTH MEDITATION

A labyrinth has a single circuitous path that winds its way to the centre. The same path is used to return from the centre therefore the entrance then becomes the exit. A labyrinth is not a maze. It has no dead ends and contains no tricks. The path is in full view.

The three stages to walking the labyrinth are; RELEASING on the way in; RECEIVING in the centre; and RETURNING on the way out using the same path. There is no right or wrong way to walk a labyrinth except for the continuous respect for others walking. A quiet and internal focus assists a participant to take back into their world whatever experience they have received within the labyrinth.

A labyrinth is used to meet a wide spectrum of people’s needs. Some come simply to slow down and others come with questions or during times of grief and loss. The uses are as varied as the people who walk the labyrinth. A labyrinth has been variously described as a path of prayer, a walking meditation, a crucible of change, a watering hole for the Spirit and a mirror for the Soul. The opportunity is provided to walk a beautiful replica of Chartres Cathedral labyrinth.

A labyrinth has a single circuitous path modelled on an ancient and sacred design. It is not a maze and contains no tricks. A labyrinth can be used as a means of understanding many aspects of life at varying levels and can be used successfully in schools for children and young people of all ages.

More than thirty years teaching experience in primary and high schools has fostered within me a deep awareness of, and interest in, the spirituality of children. Having been trained as a facilitator at Chartres Cathedral I have now developed a workshop which incorporates Religious Studies, Literacy, Creative Arts and S.E.A.L.

During a time of constant pressure on teachers and pupils to perform and excel, I believe I provide a safe and secure environment within which to explore many issues. Areas of focus include...

COMMUNITY FESTIVALS

e.g. Advent, Christmas, Easter, Eid, Divali, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Remembrance, World Peace.

TRANSITIONAL STAGES

e.g. to support preparation for High School, Sacramental Programmes.

EMOTIONAL ISSUES

e.g. Bereavement, Self Esteem issues, Bullying issues.
